Bitty

Hello! I feel like I'm always rushing doing these posts, I really love doing them but sorry there aren't more. Or not? Maybe they're all the better for being rare gems...

Ok. So this post will be more bitty than outfit-y.

First up, my new hat. You may have seen it on Twitter last week but if not, here it is in all its vintage-C&A-from-a-charity-shop glory:

Haha. Look at Dynasty-esque expression. I was actually just doing it in a rush because there were shoppers all around me!

Next, the books I've been reading recently.

The Paris Wife is a beautiful book about Ernest Hemingway and his first wife Hadley living in Paris in the 20's. It's so descriptive and melancholy. I highly recommend it.

I can't get enough of Philippa Gregory's books. The Lady of the Rivers is the third book in a three part series describing women in opposing or higher/lower roles but all tied up with the houses of York, Lancaster and Tudor in the summer of 1430. They're very accurate (she is a historian) but to be honest the love stories and lives of the women in these books feel like the most real parts even though they are fictional! But they are based on facts about women in the past that Philippa Gregory has found through research and decided to create a story around.

Lastly, I read The Color Purple for the first time, and it's really moving, sad but hopeful at the same time. It's written as a series of letters by a black woman and her sister, and their lives as they get older and live through hardships.

So three very good ones there, lucky me! I've also finally given in to pressure and am reading the Game of Thrones series and they are very good books too.

I love this outfit! I wore it to work then straight out to the pub. I haven't got so many outfit posts to do at the moment as I haven't got a penny (because I booked my month long trip to Thailand in August, yay!) to buy new things and I don't like to keep repeating clothes.

And last but definitely not least, me in a fox mask. Just because.

Creepy or Cool?

Hi all! Not really had the time to write lately. I'm always tempted to bung everything into one big post and blabber on about everything in my life but I'll stretch things out to tomorrow as well so I don't scare you off.

I'll start with the clothes though, my favourite bit.

First up this beautiful dress that I got in H&M for a fiver last year. I've been desperate to wear it but it's been too cold until now. Worn with jacket from Forever21.

My first attempt at bare legs this year. The only problem was this dress is so static-y it kept riding up. I hate static! Vintage dress and jacket.

Another vintage dress, scarily neon-tomato coloured. I really MUST take this dress up, you can't see but there's loads of material tucked in and sticking out of the back of the belt. It just looks bad at its normal length.

I bloody love this dress. I put it on and decided I looked like a creepy giant baby or a human sized doll. I went and showed my boyfriend and he said "You look like a baddie from Doctor Who, where you know something is wrong but you can't tell exactly what. Please take it off it's really creepy."

Obviously I didn't. It definitely looks weirder in real life than these pictures but I happily trotted off to my friends house to show off its oddness.

I got a vintage skirt as well after mercy saving it from its hideous matching blouse but the picture came out badly so another time!

I'm trying to narrow down my clothes at the moment for our move to London at the end of May but these are definitely all keepers.

Short but sweet

So to round off this lovely sunny week, a few outfits that I've worn recently.

As you can see I cannot stop wearing this jacket! It's perfect for this weather. It's from Forever 21 in New York.

And a couple of pictures from yesterday's short but sweet (and chilly) first barbeque of the year. Lovely.

Tweed and leopard print

I don't know about you but that blog title thrills me a bit!

So, my vintage find. Unfortunately we didn't have loads of time to go vintage shopping because there were so many other things to do in our short time in Paris. But I'll definitely be going back one day to make up for it. I'd been recommended a place called Free P Star (a play on the word Fripe which is 'second-hand' in French) by a few people so we wandered around and found it. It was teeny tiny, but did have an upstairs and downstairs bit. Again we were in a bit of a rush (and my boyfriend was bored!) so I just had a quick rummage. They had loads of lovely stuff though and really cheap, which is a nice change to our expensive vintage shops!

Isn't it cute? I think it's a men's jacket but it fits really well.

I'm wearing it with the vintage leopard print skirt I got at Plus London from Red Bow Vintage and a primark vest top and belt.

Finding this did make me realise I haven't bought anything from charity shops for a while so hopefully I'll get to some on the weekend and find more gems!

Bonjour mon petit chouxs

Hello my little cabbages! I don't quite know why that's my favourite french phrase (see post title) but I like it even if it does make me sound like Dame Edna in English.

Paris was amazing, of course. It was sunny, warm - almost too warm, I definitely could have done with lighter shoes and I didn't need my scarf at all - and just so beautiful. I couldn't stop looking up at all the buildings and wishing I lived in one of them.

We didn't rush around ticking things off but pottered, people watched and ate lots of nice things. We tried steak tartare which is gorgeous; it tastes like salad! I know that makes no sense with it being uncooked raw beef but still.

Quickie

Hiya, just a quick one today. I went to Cornwall on the weekend to see my new nephew-not-quite-in-law who's a cutie, then college Mon and Tues, in work for one day and then off to Paris tomorrow. I'm still not sure what to wear, I've gotten so entrenched in my winter clothes that now it's brightening up I want to wear more Spring-like things. But it's still freezing! Ah well, it's only three days it won't be that big a problem.

I dyed my hair last night ready for the trip as well - I didn't want any chic Parisians looking down their noses at my greys (greys! At 25! Woe) so now I'm back to being a nice red with a sharp short fringe instead of looking like a shaggy dog.

Today I'm wearing a Dorothy Perkisn dress that I got at Christmas.

 And seeing as you can see it in the picture I decided to introduce you to my new backpack! I was getting really bad neck pain from lugging around heavy holdalls so this is perfect. Only £10 from Primark.
