Burgundy bargain

Another great ebay find today. I think I must be getting quite good with working out what will fit me going by the pictures, because I'm having more hits than misses lately.

I think I'll be saving this dress for autumn, but here's a preview:

Original ebay picture

Isn't it pretty?

I am intentionally covering my face with my phone, I'd just finished bootcamp and had no makeup on, not really a look I want to broadcast across the internet...

Looking forward to getting my latest Dorothy Perkins delivery (hopefully today), I bought four dresses, I'm almost definite one won't fit but I put my size in the basket then when I went to pay a few hours later it had gone, so I panic bought a bigger size. If I can't make it work with a belt then it'll have to go back but it was worth a try!

Fingers crossed for a sunny weekend, BBC weather seems to be really optimistic so I'm just going to go with that and ignore all other reports.

Drunken Dresses

I love going to the pub in vintage dresses. Even in the pretty open-minded Brighton people still usually look at you when you look a bit "different", albeit in a good way, and usually followed by a compliment or "where did you get that?". It's always quite satisfying to say it's vintage and from ebay/vintage shop/charity shop and for them to be impressed.

Last week I went to my local in a lovely blue vintage dress that I've shown here before, one I bought and fitted me perfectly (unusual!), and on the way back we took some drunken photos of me climbing a wall/rail. I'm so glad I didn't fall off!

This is the outfit in its full glory:

Worn with Primark shoes, a mustard half-cardi from Dorothy Perkins and some mahoosive pat butcher earrings that (luckily really) you can't see.

On Saturday the Boy and I went to Shoreditch for a birthday, we ended up on a fantastic rooftop garden drinking cider, yay.

I felt rubbish on Sunday but had to get up to be a tour guide of Brighton to a friend and her friends. They're from Australia and were terrified by the size of English seagulls! Obviously they're everywhere in Brighton, and are pretty scary b*stards!

We went to the pier, for lunch and wandered the Laines, and popped in to a little vintage market where I got this gorgeous dress for £15. Fits perfectly and the store guy even lent me a belt so I could see how it would look. It's a new favourite I think!

Giveaway winner!

Hi all!

Well I won't make you wait past my outfit pictures, the winner of my giveaway is...

EDIT - forgot to include this in original post

Sarah! She's lovely and slightly crazy and her blog is very funny. Penny and Lola - go follow it.

Ok so now to my outfit for today.

I've taken that skirt I was wearing last week (remember - when I was so proud of my accessorising!) and cinched it in with a belt. Exciting hey?!

So, charity shop skirt, primark shoes and belt, Velvet cardigan (I don't know how widespread Velvet is, but it's the most amazing shop for homeware and gifts, they do furniture and the one near me does clothes too. I always go in when they've got sales because it's not cheap stuff, but great quality and really unusual too. It's where I got my Royal Wedding party dress from too.) And the accessories are:

Topshop earrings

I literally can't not do this pose in pictures now

And a random little flower thing that I put a hairclip on.

Looking forward to a friend-filled and a (pleasepleaseplease) sunny weekend ahead.

Thanks so much to everyone who entered my giveaway, it was loads of fun to do and hopefully I'll do another soon!

Summer Saviour

Hi everyone!

Well I won't go on about the MISERABLE weather we've been having, but I did want to show off the thing that's been my saviour in a time when you have no idea what the weather's going to be from one half-hour to the next.

It's my cape. Reduced to £10 in Primark, I bought it because it looked quite cosy and I liked the striped hood, and now I wear it every day.

It's just so handy, warm but not too warm, keeps me pretty dry with its handy hood, looks nice, can be thrown over anything easily...one of my best purchases this year I think!

I would love to get a proper vintage cape, but maybe for the winter as I think they tend to be thicker.

My work outfit for today is an ancient H&M dress, I think it was given to me about 8 years ago, a belt, leggings and my faithful cowboy boots. I'm thankful every day that they're waterproof!!

I got a package yesterday from Char at t*rexes and tiaras because I won her summer reading competition. I got a new book called The Cradle Snatcher by Tess Stimpson, and some other great stuff:

It was wrapped in very cool wrapping paper

Cute bird hook

Very cool red bracelet
So thanks Char!

Just a reminder that my giveaway finishes TODAY at midnight, so click here to enter if you haven't already!

Lastly, I thought I'd show you the front cover of this great omnibus I'm reading at the moment because it looks lovely. They're cheesy murder mysteries and they're really fun! The first one is called 'The affair of the bloodstained tea cosy' so you can tell that it's a bit tongue in cheek!

I really recommend them, they're very easy to read. I thought I'd only ordered the first book of the three, but then this turned up, I was really pleased especially as I'd only paid £2.81 in total!

Good luck everyone who entered the giveaway, I'll hopefully announce the winner tomorrow afternoon.

Perky Pink

Hi all!

What a beautiful day, shame it's not meant to last the weekend. I've just had a lovely picnic lunch at work and managed to get through five glasses of champagne, so I thought I'd write this before I fall asleep under my desk...

I've had lots compliments on my "summery" dress today, it's nice and light and a lovely pale pink colour. I got it from ebay.

I've accessorised with a little pink bow that came with a package, I've just put a couple of grips through the back bits.

I'm seeing Harry Potter tonight. I keep telling people who are seeing this it afternoon not to tell me what happens, and they're like, oh I thought you had read the books?

I have. What an idiot. But I do hate it when people talk about the ending anyway, even though I know what happens I still want to watch it like I don't!

And then tomorrow I'm off to see my friends new baby, Pearl. I told my friend that it was very considerate of her to be two weeks overdue, so that the baby was born just before my only free weekend this month so I could visit. She didn't seem to find it that funny.

Bye!

One(sie) love

Hi everyone! So I haven't been doing loads of posts recently because I promised to stop taking pictures of myself in my mirror. And you know what? I'm going back to it! It's HARD otherwise. I do prefer "proper" photos obviously but it means I have to catch my boyfriend after work and before bootcamp to take a picture of that days outfit, because he leaves for work before I even get up, or I have to take them with the camera and put them on the computer and email them to myself in the morning, and considering I don't even have time to do my make-up in the morning (I do it on the bus on the way to work) I don't have time for all of that either!

I've decided that if you nice people followed me even with pictures taken in a smeary mirror with a visible phone - then you will continue to do so!

To celebrate here is today's outfit picture:

It's a Dorothy Perkins skirt and a Primark dress (via BlargleFargle blog sale) tucked in.

I also added a cute rose ring and wore one of my everyday blue rings that matched the skirt. I got this ring in India and it has a "star" in it when the light catches it - I've taken two pics with flash on and off so you can see what I mean:
Normal

With light. Shiny!

Lastly, here is my most recent purchase. I got it for a pyjama party in the pub (my stepmum's 50th birthday, she crazy) but I didn't wear it. I put it on last night because I was chilly, and it's luvverly.

I may have also bought a monkey onesie for my boyfriend (complete with ears and a tail) which, after initial reservations, he loves.

Questions, polka dots and fringes.

Hi!

I stole this questionnaire from Sophie at Country Girl Does Norfolk because I love these things. I've been looking forward to doing it for a couple of days now!

What is bothering you right now?
How much uni fees are and which one I will (hopefully) go to next year.
Do you like celebrity magazines?
No.
When was the last time you were ill? Why?
Hmmm bit of a sore throat but I'm never seriously ill.
Do you feel you belong in a different era?
Sometimes, I'd like to live in the 40's or 50's but I wouldn't be able to be who I am today.
Who owns you?
My hamster Doris owns my heart.
Favorite country in Europe?
I think I would say England but after that Germany. I haven't been around Europe enough though.
Did you skive off school?
Yes. Mostly when attempting my A-Levels
Ever played an instrument?
I played the recorder at Primary school.
Favorite alcoholic drink?
Cider and Black : )
Do you follow fashion?
I enjoy seeing new styles but for how I can wear them, not just because they're currently in.
What colour are your eyes? Do you like that colour?
Greeny/Grey/Bluey - yes I like them.
What is the furthest you have travelled from your home? How far was it?
India. It was far.
What is the coldest temperatures you have experienced? Where were you?
Just a plain old cold English winter!
What is the hottest temperatures you have experienced? Where were you?
In Greece probably.
Imagine you have three wishes. List them. (A million more wishes doesn't count)
1. I hate these things! Win the lottery (so I could give to and work for charities as well as fund my rock and roll lifestyle)
2. Eat what I want without ever gaining weight.
3. Um. Everyone to be happy. (Poor effort I know!)
Are you keeping a secret from the world?
No.
If you could go back in time and give advice to yourself ten years ago, what would you say?
You’re fun and interesting and lots of people like you!
How have you changed in the past 10 years?
I've become more confident
Is abortion wrong?
No, but women should be careful not to use it just as a form of contraception.
Do you like long train/car journeys?
Don't really like long car journeys but I love long train journeys. A book, some food, more space than in a car and my ipod. Perfect.
Have you ever considered writing a novel?
Yes I think about it all the time. I want to write a book about being a fag hag in Brighton!
Have you ever punched someone in the face?
No but I have slapped someone.
What is your sense of humour like?
I love sarcasm and quick wit, but stupid jokes make me silently shake with laughter till I cry (example - yesterday I dropped a pea on the floor and spent half an hour chuckling to myself saying 'I pea'd on the floor!')
Are you a good person?
Extremely.

Now on to my outfit from yesterday. A little while ago I mentioned in a post about a skirt I got as part of a charity shop haul for £2. When I tried to wear the skirt it was ok, but I just couldn't find a top to go with it. I was seeing what it would look like to be worn a bit higher and ended up pulling it all the way up and realising that it looked pretty good as a dress! What do you think?

I've done this with a few skirts before, it works well when they're quite long. Those are lots of little white polka dots all over the dress, and I've got on a plastic white bead necklace and a black plastic bracelet with white spots on. I was quite proud of my accessories!

If you follow me on Twitter you might have seen this morning a picture of my new fringe. It's not that crazy but I cut it on a slant last night (after doing it a bit accidentally and my boyfriend liking it). I do like it but I'm quite conscious of it, people keep looking at it while they're talking to me! But good feedback luckily.

Feel free to copy the questionnaire if you fancy it.

Glee-ful

What a great week it was last week! SUNNY for a start, which always helps. Then on Thursday I went to London to see the Glee Live show, which was amazing! I love Glee but I didn't even think of seeing the live show, then my friend called me up with a spare ticket which I wasn't going to say no to. I wish they'd done more covers of older songs instead of mainly modern stuff but that's just me. The best song of the night was Amber Riley singing Areatha Franklin's 'Ain't No Way'.

My favourite songs of the whole series are the Warblers covers: Bills, Bills, Bills and When I get You Alone - even if you don't like Glee these are great!

Had a nice chilled out Friday in our local beer garden by the seafront, and then on Sunday we went for a party/bbq/camping in a friends back garden. This back garden does happen to include a pool, an orchard, a couple of lawns and a small house in it though, so there was plenty of room!! They'd hired live bands for night as well, so music, food, friends, sun and lots of (too much!) alcohol made it perfect.

I wanted to get a better picture of the dres I wore on Saturday but I didn't on my camera, I'm going to see if anyone else got any but in the meantime I'll put this one up. The dress is a gorgeous prom style dress that goes to just below my knees, bright blue with flowers on and an orange ribbon to cinch it in. I'm also wearing my favourite straw hat that I got in Bristol for £2.99 in a charity shop.
